How Ireland's CRO Compares to UK Companies House

VantageData Team·30 April 2026

The Irish Company Registration System

The Companies Registration Office (CRO) is the central repository for public statutory information on Irish companies. Ireland has approximately 240,000–260,000 active registered companies, with around 15,000–20,000 new incorporations per year.

Why Ireland Is Strategically Important

Ireland is home to the European headquarters of many of the world's largest technology and pharmaceutical companies. Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Pfizer, Roche, and dozens of others have their EU operational base in Ireland. For technology sales organisations, the Ireland-based European operations of US tech giants often have substantial regional buying authority.

CRO Data vs Companies House Data

The CRO provides similar data to Companies House: company name, registration number, company type, incorporation date, registered office address, company status, directors and secretaries. One notable difference: Ireland uses NACE codes (the European industry classification system) rather than UK SIC codes.

Using Ireland as a Gateway to EU Market Research

Because Ireland is an EU member and uses standard European classifications, CRO data can be combined with company data from other EU countries for EU-wide market analysis. Monthly new company formations in Ireland run at approximately 1,000–1,500 per month, with a high proportion in high-value sectors.
